I havent got on them yet either but I have seen a lot of action on the sabine river and others around here and with the water level being so high I imagine they are doing pretty well.

This high water has sprung my white bass hole back from the dead.   The past couple years the water level was to low to fish it ... but they are stacked in there now......

Caught a few at Somerville Saturday morning. From the folks I talked to Friday was the day to be there. It was nice to get out though. There are tons of ducks up there in Nails Creek state park. Even saw a cinnamon teal drake go buzzing by.

They absolutely have to be fresh to eat them.  After freezing, they're only good for a week or two before they start tasting fishy.  I've tried cutting out bloodlines and everything, it just doesn't work when you've grown accustomed to eating redfish and trout.  They are pretty tasty when they are cooked the same day they are caught though.  Really like them panfried.

The only thing worse than fishy taste is mustard taste.  Nasty.  Yes

Heard that on the mustard before and have tried it when cooked by several friends, but you get an aftertaste of mustard.  I think if you like mustard you'd never realize that taste is there... but there are few people in the world who abhor mustard as much as I do! LOL

Buttermilk and salt water do not help whitebass.  Only freshness helps whitebass.  Very good fresh, bad after two weeks in the freezer, very bad after a month in the freezer.  And they only last that long if you cut the bloodline and all the red meat out.

I still keep em, I just give them away to neighbors or use them for big fish fries since most folks can't tell the difference.  Hybrids and stripers are the same way.

I was raised on saltwater fish so Im not real fond of most freshwater fish. If I have to use mustard on it they are going back in the water.

That's what I really want to fish for this weekend, but to say that I suck at crappie fishing would be an understatement.  Embarrassed

Dang Brodie. Spring crappie fishing is easy. A minnow and a bobber in shallow cover.

And I will get skunked every time.  I can just never seem to hit them right, and even when they are biting I can't seem to find them.  Probably because I only try once or twice a year, but still.  I have had exactly one good crappie fishing trip in my entire life.

Everyone makes fun of me when I crappie fish. I will have about 6 or 7 rods on the bank set at differant depths. That way I cover alot of the water collum to figure out where they are. I also have a few 12' crappie poles to fish heavy cover.

If the weather stays like this it will be on for sure. Crappie are one of the few freshwater fish I like to eat.
